Meeting of experts on the reconstruction of the Observatory (VIDEO)

On February 18-19 in Tatariv (Ivano-Frankivsk region) a traditional working meeting of experts on the establishment of the International Research Center "Observatory" of the Precarpathian and Warsaw Universities on Mount Pip Ivan took place.

It was attended by the Rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University Ihor Tsependa, Director of Studium of Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw Jan Malicki, representatives of universities (offline and online), representatives of the SES in Ivano-Frankivsk region (offline and online), Bieszczady Mountain Volunteer Rescue Group (online), public authorities of Ukraine and Poland (online), local governments and project institutions of both countries (online), joint technical secretariat of the Cross-Border Cooperation Program "Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014-2020" (online), contractors performing restoration and repair work at the Observatory.

On the eve of February 18, the IV Coordination Meeting of the Steering Committee of the PIMReC project "Adaptation of the former observatory on Mount Pip Ivan to the needs of the mountain rescue training center" was held with the financial support of the European Union under the Cross-Border Cooperation Program

Poland - Belarus - Ukraine 2014 - 2020.


At the meeting, the partners discussed the ways of thefurther implementation ofthe project, made changes to the plans and budget caused by the continuation of the project in connection with the pandemic for another 12 months (until December 22, 2022).


The international project in the framework of cooperation PL-BY-UA (Poland-Belarus-Ukraine) is implemented by four partners: Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Warsaw University, SES Department in Ivano-Frankivsk region, Bieszczady group of mountain volunteer rescue teams.


On February 18, the partners did:

1) A new action plan of the project for 2021 was discussed and drawn up, namely the holding of information days, round tables and meetings of the Steering Committee. It has been decided to hold all events online by June 2021. The next event - Information Day - will take place on April 20, 2021, where the interim results of the project will be presented to the public of Ivano-Frankivsk region.


2) The training plan was discussed and alternative ways of carrying out these measures were considered in case the situation with the epidemic does not improve and the imposed quarantine restrictions remain in force.

3) The plan of construction and restoration works for 2021 and the plan of meetings of the Infrastructure Group were discussed and approved. It was decided to display all the steps in the "Construction Diary" on the project website and supplement the descriptions not only with photo reports, but also with short videos about the progress of work.

On February 19, the meeting was attended by a wider range of experts involved in the establishment of the International Observatory Research Center, and not only those who are actively involved in the PIMReC project.

The meeting was opened by the rector of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian University Ihor Tsependa.


Jan Malicki, Director of the Studium of Eastern European Studies at the University of Warsaw, spoke about the three stages of rebuilding the Observatory.

The participants of the meeting were also addressed by the Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv Mrs Eliza Dzvonkiewisz.

Rafal Balinsky, Director of the Regional Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Finance and Regional Policy of the Republic of Poland, greeted the participants online.

The Marshal's Office of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship is a long-term partner of the initiators of the Observatory's reconstruction.

The meeting of experts was attended by Vice-Marshal of Podkarpackie Voivodeship Piotr Pilch.

Volodymyr Martsenyuk, Director of TRANSBUD Construction Company LLC, spoke about the progress of construction works at the Observatory. The experts asked the contractors a number of questions about the restoration work.

According to Volodymyr Martsenyuk, 25 to 40 workers will be employed at the final stage of the Observatory's restoration this year.
