A traditional annual meeting was held in Warsaw by Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and Warsaw University, for the period since November 30 till December 2. It was dedicated to the restoration of the Astronomical-Meteorological Observatory on a Mount Pip Ivan. The meeting was attended by the rector of the V. Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, Igor Tsependa, the director of the Center for Eastern and European Studies at the Warsaw University Jan Malitsky, the head of of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service (SES) in Ivano-Frankivsk region, Volodymyr Chernetsky, as well as architects, engineers, experts and scholars who implement the project. They summed up the restoration work in 2017 and approved a plan for the fulfillment of the next stages of reconstruction. The main attention was paid to the architectural and engineering part of the project.
In particular, they paid a special care to the constructive and protective measures, mainly, to the creation of a system of thunderbolt. The Precarpathian University has already commissioned the project and budget documentation for this system. The installation of the equipment is scheduled for May-June 2018.
Also this year, the Observatory continued the work for strengthening the structures in the middle of the building and completed the preparation of facilities for the mountain rescue service. It is worth to remind that on September 16, the official opening of the first stage of the reconstruction of the Observatory took place, namely the search and rescue department of the 4th specialized search and rescue group of the specialized search and rescue unit of the office of Ukrainian State Emergency Service (SES) in Ivano-Frankivsk region, Yavirnyk . Then, from this date, the object began to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at an altitude of 2028 m. This means that not only the tourist traffic in the area of the Chornohora ridge, but also the building itself and its territory are now under the round-the-clock year-round care of professional rescuers. In addition, the process of creation of a Ukrainian-Polish mountain rescue service and a mountain rescue school, which in the future will be extended for the participants in rescue operations from other countries of the Carpathian region, has begun. The meeting was also attended by astronomers and meteorologists of Warsaw University, who presented the technical parameters of the future of scientific equipment which will subsequently be installed at the observatory at the meeting. Next year is the anniversary for the Observatory which since July 29, 1938 held its first discovery. The action plan for the traditional meeting in Ukraine, in February was approved and announced in the context of the celebration of this event. Please recall that on November 29, the Academic Council of Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University decided to announce on the occasion of the celebrating the next anniversary that 2018 is the Year of the Observatory on the Mount Pip Ivan. During the meeting, the project of the Internet site of the Observatory was also presented and approved, as it covers all the main areas of its future work, in particular it’s International Science Center “Observatory”, as well as news, history and much useful information for tourists from rescuers and scientists.
