Rescue Station Officially Opened

On September 16, a mountain rescue station was officially opened on Pip Ivan Mountain. Firstly it used to work for several years in the test mode, and in August 2016 Yavir search and rescue unit of the 4th specialized search and rescue group of the specialized search and rescue department of the emergency rescue detachment of the special department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Ivano-Frankivsk region was formed. Since then the rescuers have been on regular duty in the building of the astronomical-meteorological observatory which is being restored by Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the University of Warsaw.

It should be mentioned that the reconstruction of the International Scientific Center "Observatory" is funded by Poland, and by the order No. 374 “On the implementation of organizational and personnel measures in the units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine” from August 3, 2016, a search and rescue department (village of Yavirnyk, Verkhovyna district) was created with a place dislocation on Pip Ivan Mountain where 10 rescuers are provided with regular job.

Our Polish colleagues have been conducting there joint studies with Ukrainians for several years within the project which is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland with the assistance of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship.

The representatives of the state power of Poland and Ukraine, the head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Volodymyr Chernrtskyi, the clergy and, of course, the main initiators of the restoration of the Observatory - Jan Malitskyi, the director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Warsaw University and prof. Ihor Tsependa, the rector of the Precarpathian National University took part in the celebrations.
