The anniversary year of the Observatory officially began in Warsaw

Today, there has been an official opening of the Observatory's anniversary year at the University of Warsaw in the ballroom of the Pototskyi Palace.

In the celebrations took part the followingrepresentatives - Rectors of the University of Warsawand Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, respectively - Marcin Palis andIgor Tsependa , Director of the Center for East European Studies of the University of Warsaw,Jan Malicki, Polish high-ranking officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, Professors of Warsaw University and its Astronomical Observatory, experts, coordinators of scientific researchers of the International Scientific Center.

The meeting was opened by Jan Malicki, the Director of the Center for East European Studies of the University of Warsaw. He read a letter from the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Marek Kukhtsinsky, in this letter Marshal emphasized the importance of the joint reconstruction of the Observatory and wished to the initiators the success in implementing their plan.

Marcin Palis and Igor Tsependa, both stressed the importance of joint work on rebuilding not only for the development of partnerships between universities and scientific achievements, but also for improving the mutual understanding of the two countries at the political level.

Rector, Igor Tsependa said: “The observatory on Mount Pip Ivan is a magnetic place. Everyone who had visited it at least once had become a fan of lobbyists of our project. We were very grateful to the Polish and Ukrainian government officials, businessmen, public organizations and scientific institutions for the support of the idea of reconstruction ’’.

Rector of the University of Warsaw Marcin Palis said: “The role of the Observatory is significantly beyond the scope of cooperation between two universities. Nothing connected two neighboring peoples, such as human relations, which had arisen precisely when implementing such global projects. The Observatory was being a symbol of Poland greatness and strength for 80 years. At the moment, it could play a no less serious role for Ukraine. ”

After the presentation of the film about the Observatory, a historical panel took place, during which the head of the Carpathian Society Leshkov Rimarovich and the deputy director of the Astronomical Observatory of the University of Warsaw, Tomasz Buick, toldaboutnew interesting facts from the history of the Observatory and showed the unique documents about the history of construction which ended 80 years ago from the Museum of Warsaw, University and private collections,

During the celebrations the Rector ofVasylStefanyk Precarpathian National University ,Igor Tsependawas awarded the medal of the 200th anniversary of the University of Warsaw. This is a very special distinction awarded by the University of Warsaw to the celebrities from the academic world.

Igor Tsependa also received an official congratulation on this award from Marek Kukhtsinsky, the Marshal of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland.

At the event, both Rectors also received the calendars published on the occasion of the celebration of the anniversary of the Observatory.

At the end of the meeting, Jan Malicki ,the Director of the Center for East European Studies of the University of Warsaw represented the course of the current reconstruction of the facility, described the details of the conducted repair work and presented the vision of the future observatory.

The culmination of the Observatory's Year will be on July 29th as the celebration of the jubilee on the Mount Pip Ivan.
